I have worked with LittleStreams for over two years now, supporting them as they grew from a starting business to the exciting stages they are now at. With a huge range of downloadable and printable resources already designed, for sale, and being used in both the UK and US, more and more children are benefiting from the unique approach to making maths learning accessible and exciting.
The concept has always been simple: high quality; expert design; qualified application to the curriculum. Parents, tutors and teachers can be confident that LittleStreams products match the learning their children need and know that they come from tried and tested use. The design process has always including fully qualified, experienced teachers' input, and feedback has been resoundingly positive.
It's not just the content that is important - it's the visual design. Quite uniquely LittleStreams does not use the typical fonts and cartoon images often found on a lot of education resources. There's only so much Comic Sans any sane person can cope with, and older learners feel less patronised than they do with over-used "kiddie" graphics. That doesn't mean that maths is no fun, however. One of the most successful areas of the LittleStreams downloads has been from the Maths Games which help to underpin key skills at the same time as having fun.
Going Digital
LittleStreams are in an exciting phase of the company development as they begin to work on a range of digital and animation based products that will complement the current printable stock. Instead of going through the long process of simply building new apps, the company has gained amazing support for fellow education companies who specifically invited partnership with LittleStreams on the basis of the company values, attention to detail, and visual design.
This all means that soon there will be a wide range of digital products than can be used to enhance the learning experience, but in no way seek to replace good old "pencil and paper" methods, too. One of the reasons I personally value the products - and used them as a class teacher as well as a private tutor - was because LittleStreams places great emphasis on a balance between learning established, known methods as well as introducing new technologies and design into their work.
The result? As LittleStreams say themselves, the aim is to "contribute to a positive change and evolution in the combined sectors of education, design and media."
Joining the Blogging Community
LittleStreams are currently developing a new website which will be better equipped to deal with the growing demands on their product range and customer interaction. Don't worry, their current site is still accessible here so you aren't missing out on anything! As an added extra LittleStreams wanted to start engaging with everyone via a blog, discussing exciting changes in education, projects they are planning, and products that will be coming out.
So that is where my website comes in. I've invited LittleStreams to guest blog with me as they build their own so that we can share our ideas and engage in debates that you can join in too. You'll be able to spot a LittleStreams post easily by the author title and by their logo. So do come on and read their posts.
We plan on having some Q&A sessions, current affairs discussions, and maybe even some debates (you know I love a good debate), all focused on what really matters the most:
